History of the Métis Jig

The History of the Métis Jig tells the story of the origins of the traditional Métis jig. This video is meant to develop a sense of understanding and connection to the Métis culture.

All cast and crew are Albertan – from the dancers and musicians to the writer and camera crew. Filming took place in Edmonton at Rainbow Valley Park, Whitemud Creek, and Fort Edmonton Park.

The project was commissioned by the Belcourt Brosseau Métis Awards (BBMA) and funded by the Edmonton Community Foundation and Alberta Culture and Tourism.  The video premiered at the 15th Anniversary of the BBMA in September 2016 to over 600 guests including community members/leaders, industry sponsors/partners, government dignitaries, K-12 and post-secondary education providers, BBMA Alumni and 2016 recipients and their families.

Video produced by Lindisfarne Productions
