The achievement gap between First Nations, Métis and Inuit students and all other students is eliminated, focuses on success for every student.  

Educator capacity for supporting the diverse needs of students in schools, specifically First Nations, Métis and Inuit students is required. The Eliminating the Achievement Gap project identifies outcome based successful practices that various districts have applied in support of First Nations, Métis and Inuit student learning.

Promising Practices

Schools Authorities across the province work with parents and community members to implement innovative programs and strategies that support First Nations, Métis and Inuit student success.

Initiatives across the province are enhancing success in the areas of student and parent engagement, relationship-building, governance, language and culture. Considering the Medicine Wheel: Effective Strategies for Increasing Achievement Among FNMI Students

In this powerpoint, the South Slave Divisional Education Council shares their work to increase achievement of the First Nations, Metis and Inuit (Deninu) students. The powerpoint shares data, processes and priorities set by the Council, as well as culturally responsive pedagogy used to increase achievement.

First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education: Promising Practices in Fort McMurray

This report provides a summary of the research conducted by four FNMI and Field Services Education Managers to uncover promising practices that have resulted in success for FNMI students in Fort McMurray Catholic Separate School District and Fort McMurray Public School District. The 2012 Accountability Online Reporting Initiative (APORI) measures indicate that First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) students in Fort McMurray are doing well compared to First Nations, Métis and Inuit students in the rest of the province in specific areas.
